In November, we practiced communicating and learning with an open-mind. According to the IB, when we are open- minded, we "critically appreciate our own cultures and personal histories, as well as the values and traditions of others. We seek and evaluate a range of points of view, and we are willing to grow from the experience"
It is easy to find the ways we are growing and developing open-minds across the school.
Kindergarten thinkers are learning about cultures and traditions as they learn to appreciate their own personal histories and the histories and perspectives of others.
First Grade communicators are exploring choices and outcomes as they consider their point of view and the perspectives of others.
Perspectives now and then in Grade Two.
Grade Two is exploring the central idea: Living things and environments change over time. They are examining the causes of change in the environment and fast and slow change. Natural disaters are a big part of their research. They consider different points of view and grow from researching and discussing the past and how others prepare and respond to events.

5th Grade researchers provided us with many resources and book recommendations during Native American Hertige Month to explore histories and perspectives

Our guest speaker shared his point of view on resource use and renewable energy. These researchers learned about eco- friendly living and solar power.
Identity, persepective and community with YPAR
Our 6th grade thinkers are participating in YPAR with university partners. They are exploring identity, wellness, safety and community. They searched the school for community elements and noted shared perspectives, along with iindividual perspectives.
MYP HOUSE TEAMS
Our house teams are set up to develop an open- mind. House teams worked together on a scavenger hunt to achive a goal. They were able to appreciate differences and make decisions as a team.
Art Partnerships
Grade 3 artists were so open-minded as they created a mural together that represented who they are. They learned to appreciate the beliefs and values of others.
More Partners in Art in MYP. Grade 8 Artists went to CSU with the Cleveland Print Room for darkroom photography.
Another collaboration with the CSU Fab Lab in MYP. These artists are learning to create circuits in order to illumintae their shadowboxes. Working with new materials and with outside partners helps us appreciate new perspectives.
Holiday Shop
Our Good Gift Shop gives students an opportunity to appreciate the creativity and hard work of our student entrepreneaurs. Our Holiday shop priovides many quality handmade goods produced by students.

The Winter Band concert showcases the talent and collaboration of our CIS musicians in Grades 4-8.
Sharing our vision with visitors
Members of Leadership Cleveland visited classroomns and heard from some of our 8th Grade Scholars. We welcome guests with an open- mind and shared perspectives on education at CIS and around Cleveland.
We are open-minded.
Students in Grade K-5 were recognized for ther demonstration of what it means to be open-minded. These students "share and ask questions to learn more about each other." They are open to hearing and considering the opinions of others. Students were alsio recognized for their willingness to " try new things" and " be curious about other people and their ideas."
