Week Two

This second week of school was a busy one, with some ups and downs, but we kept an open-mind with a focus on learning and community to help each other through.

Thanks to our teachers, families and students for making this a great week. Teachers helped get us through some technology difficulties with grace and curiosity - finding answers and solutions. Families and students were patient and open-minded.

This week also included more technology distribution and supply pick -up and a bike raffle.

In our virtual classrooms, strong learning communities are developing through communication and collaboration.

Supply and Technology Distribution

CIS distributed computers and supplies to many of our students and families. 376 cars passed through the lot. It was great to see our families drive through, along with some CIS graduates driving through. Thanks to all the teachers, staff and volunteers who helped make sure everyone has the tools they need for learning. If you are still in need of supplies, stop in at the school between 9:00-12:00 and 1:00-3:00, Monday -Friday.

Our teachers are creative and caring.

Take a look at the slideshow to the left. There were mugs, surprise bags and dry erase boards and tools to make learning fun:)

Some poetry from Mrs. Pohlman's Grade 6 Writers

We are getting better every day.

Learning at home is a ball of emotions.

I roll until my confusions go away.

To relieve my stress, I write every day.

Although it is different, it's getting better every day.

I unravel like paper, so my bad emotions don't stay.

I think about the good things as time goes by and I try to not cry.

When will COVID-19 stand up and walk by

Lucky winners from our 10 Year Anniversary raffle.

Creating Caring Communities with Essential Agreements

Our Essential Agreements are still the same, although they may look a little different in practice. Our First graders considered how they look in a remote environment and the ways these agreements apply to staying safe and caring for each other during the pandemic. These agreements are useful in many contexts. Third graders extended these agreements to include families too.

BE THE CHANGE

Our change makers did some thinking on what they care about and what inspires them to action. Caring Kindergarteners are ready to fill buckets with kindness and caring and creat more peace. A family member and doctor in Grade Three shared ways to keep COVID safe. We are ready to take action and BE THE CHANGE and remember:

"Fight for the things that you care about, but do it in a way that will lead others to join you." - Ruth Bader Ginsburg

Let's continue to follow her legacy of inspiration, dedication and action to make the world a more peaceful and equitable place.
