This week we'll think about where we are in place and time. This is theme is an inquiry into orientation in place and time; personal histories; homes and journeys; the discoveries, explorations and migrations of humankind; the relationships between and interconnectedness of individuals and civilizations; from local and global perspectives. This is the perfect time to explore the interconnectedness from local and global perspectives.

The Fathers, friends and family walk looked different this year. It was another opportunity to explore place and time and consider opportunities to come together as a community even when we are apart. Thanks to everyone who showed up and shared some Zoom time or took time for a walk outside to celebrate and support each other.
Speaking of our place in time, it is election time in the United States and our CIS community knows the importance of civic engagement and the connection between rights and responsibilities. They are standing up for what they believe in, remaining open- minded to ideas and beliefs of others and making their voices heard with neighborhood parades and events to encourage voting. Our CIS community is also getting out there to VOTE and many of our young explorers are joining their families. There is also a kid's ballot for our young people to get to know the voting process early.
“Voting is the expression of our commitment to ourselves, one another, this country, and this world.”
~Sharon Salzberg, American author
Who we are in Grade Five
Grade Five inquirers explore the central idea: Power and authority depend on the actions of citizens and governments. They are thinking about the function of government as well as the responsibility of citizens and the importance of considering many different perspectives. They are exploring their own rights and responsibility as they consider the changes they would like to see in themselves, the community and the world.
Learning at home
